Clemson fills assistant voids with a familiar face and another veteran coach

Clemson Tigers Head coach Dabo Swinney is suiting up with some new staffers in 2024. Less than a week after releasing Lemanski Hall and Thomas Austin of duties, The Clemson Board of Trustees approved contracts for new Offensive Line Coach Matt Luke and Defensive End Coach Chris Rumph.

Previously, Luke spent three years as head coach at Ole Miss, was fired in 2019, then joined the coaching staff with Kirby's Smarts', Georgia Bulldogs helping lead them to the national championship in 2021. Luke has taken the last two seasons off after stepping down at Georgia in February of 2022. He citing a need to spend more time with family.

Rumph has spent the past 4 years in the NFL working as Defensive Line Coach for the Houston Texans, Chicago Bears and most recently the Minnesota Vikings.

This will be Rumph's second run with the Tigers, he coached defensive ends from 2006 to 2010. Rumph is a native South Carolinian who played for the Gamecocks, early in his coaching career he served as Head Coach of his alma mater Calhoun County High School.

Luke signed a 3 year, $3.275 Million dollar deal. Rumph signed a 3 year contract at $3.05 million.

The Tigers finished the season 8-4 and will be heading to Jacksonville FL later this month to take on the Kentucky Wildcats in the Gator Bowl. The game is scheduled for Friday December 29th at Everbank Stadium.
