Black Hikers Unite on On Point with Juandolyn Stokes: Building Community Through the Outdoors

Recently on On Point with Juandolyn Stokes, Kenneth Felton, founder of Black Hikers Unite (BHU), shared his inspiring journey of creating a nonprofit dedicated to connecting Black and Brown communities with the outdoors. What began as his personal passion for adventure quickly grew into a movement centered on wellness, unity, and environmental stewardship.

"Nature belongs to everybody. Our culture have gotten away from going outside and enjoying outside" says Felton.

Through BHU, Felton has worked to make outdoor spaces more accessible, cultivating a community where people can find healing, camaraderie, and a renewed appreciation for nature. Beyond his role as founder, Kenneth is an entrepreneur, adventurer, and mental health advocate—constantly championing the link between outdoor activity and holistic well-being. Felton educated listeners on hiking and equipped everyone with the tools we need for safety first.

With Black Hikers Unite, Felton continues to blaze new trails, reminding us that the outdoors is for everyone, and that community and wellness thrive when we reconnect with nature together.
