Another country music group has changed their name due to the cultural changes brought on by nationwide protests spotlighting racial inequality.
The Dixie Chicks will now be known as simply 'The Chicks.'
The trio has changed their name in acknowledgment of criticism over the use of the word “Dixie,” a nostalgic nickname for the Civil War-era South.
The Chicks did not make a huge announcement of the change, like Lady A , but instead quietly changed all their social media handles and released a new music video as just 'The Chicks.'
On the band's website, they released a statement saying they "want to meet this movement," which is why the music video for their song "March March" features footage from current and historical protests including women's rights, gay rights, climate change, and Black Lives Matter marches.
The Chicks are used to being an outspoken voice in country music and the name change comes just before the release of their album "Gaslighter" set to drop on July 17th.
