GARY, Ind. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The new Hard Rock Casino in Gary opens to the public late Friday morning.
The new Hard Rock Casino Northern Indiana opens Friday after some hiccups, including Spectacle Entertainment CEO Rod Ratcliff stepping away under a cloud.
Spectacle Entertainment, which bought two Majestic Star casino boats, transferred the licenses to the new land-based casino in Gary. The Indiana Gaming Commission approved Hard Rock International, owned by the Seminole Tribe in Florida, to be a minority owner.
The $300 million casino, located just off 80-94 at Burr Street, has 150,000-square feet of gaming space, 1,600 slot machines, and 80 table games. It will have five food venues including Hard Rock Café, council Oak Steaks and Seafood, YouYu Noodle Bar, Fresh Harvest and a Constant Grind Coffee Shop.
There will also be a retail shop, a 200-room hotel, and a Hard Rock Live performance venue that seats nearly 2,000 people.
The grand opening ceremony includes a guitar smashing, a tradition Hard Rock does instead of a ribbon-cutting, that will include members of Gary’s most famous family, the Jacksons, as well as Pete Wentz from Fall Out Boy.
