You may have seen signs or advertisements over the last couple of months referring to "Orlando's Signature Event." They were, of course, referring to the Arnold Palmer Invitational, a professional golf tournament that is played at Bay Hill Country Club in Orlando every March.

I have been an avid golfer and fan of the PGA my entire life, but I'd somehow never attended an actual tournament. Now that I live in Orlando, it was on my must-do list to be at this year's Arnold Palmer. I was even able to convince my wife, Lauryn, to come with me. In fact, the highlight of my day was telling Rory McIlroy (one of the best golfers of the last 15 years) that my wife "loved" him. (see video below)
Is Rory McIlroy one of my wife's favorite golfers? Sure. Did I need to share that information with Rory as he walked by me? Definitely not, but I think I was starstruck and felt like I needed to say something. Regardless, he was not phased by my comment.
Overall, it was an incredible day. I was in absolute awe watching these professionals hit the shots that I'd seen them hit on tv so many times. Seeing them in person gave me so much more appreciation for their skill. I also loved the friendly environment at Bay Hill. Golf gets a reputation for being uppity or stuffy, but I found this tournament to be the total opposite. The staff and patrons were all so welcoming.
It was a long day of walking in the 85 degree heat, but it was totally worth it. Even if you aren't a golf fan, I would recommend attending the event at least once. My wife isn't a golf fan by any means, but she loved walking around the beautiful golf course in the sunshine. Also, the spiked Arnold Palmers. There's something for everyone at the Arnold Palmer, and I plan to be there every year from now on.
