Written by Zach Baylin and directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green, the film centers on the tennis stars’ formative years, Yahoo! Entertainment says.
Serena, played by Demi Singleton, and Venus, played by Saniyya Sidney, defy expectations and emerge victoriously from the difficult neighborhood of Compton, California.
Smith previously starred in sports dramas including 2001’s Muhammad Ali documentary “Ali” and 2015’s NFL drama “Concussion.” According to the studio, the actor plays "an undeterred father" with a "relentless drive and unapologetic vision to change the game," ESPN reports.
The famous sister duo, who have both been named as the number one tennis players at different points in their careers, have combined won 30 Grand Slam singles titles, the outlet reports.
"This profoundly moving film shows the power of family, perseverance, and unwavering belief as a means to achieve the impossible — and truly change the world," HBO Max wrote with the trailer.
"Witness a father's vision for his children's future, his unconventional methods, and his love as he executes a brilliant plan to take his daughters from the streets of Compton, California to the global stage."
Venus and Serena, along with their sister, Isha Price, are executive producers on the film.
