(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Leaders of the Illinois High School Association are looking for a stadium to host the state's future high school football championships, and one current site could be left out as a result.
The football finals have alternated between Huskie Stadium at Northern Illinois University and Memorial Stadium at the University of Illinois.
IHSA executive director Craig Anderson said that's because the U of I had a home game every other year that conflicted with the high school finals.
Anderson says the IHSA board would prefer that the finals be held at the same place every year, rather than alternating stadiums.
“Having the back and forth from year to year, it had its own set of challenges,” he said.
He expects the IHSA board to decide in December where the football finals will be held for the following five years, and whether they will be held at just one site.
