(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Six people from Indianapolis have been indicted on charges they illegally bought dozens of guns, including several that were used in crimes in Chicago, federal prosecutors announced Thursday.
Investigators say the six made "straw purchases" of more than 90 guns on behalf of people who cannot legally own them.
Investigators believe one of the guns was used in the April killing of 7-year-old Jaslyn Adams in the drive-thru of a McDonalds on Roosevelt near Kedzie.
Prosecutors said another of the guns was used to shoot an unidentified Chicago police officer.
Kathleen Sances, who leads the Gun Violence Prevention Political Action Committee of Illinois, said many illegal guns seized by Chicago police come from straw purchases.
