CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- After a woman was shot while walking her dog in Uptown, the taco stand where she works is collecting donations for her recovery.
Patty Guerrero considers Katherine Canjura a vital part of the operation at Edgewater Tacos - and has been missing the 21-year-old since Canjura was shot early Tuesday morning while walking her dog Milo.
She was walking her dog in the 1300 block of West Sunnyside Avenue, when a silver sport-utility vehicle pulled up around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, according to police. Someone in the SUV shot toward Canjura.
Guerrero tells CBS 2 customers and Canjura's co-workers have been collecting money to help cover her medical bills and lost income since she has not been able to work after the incident.
"Everyone knows Kat. They're coming in at dinner asking, how is she doing?" she said. "People have really come out to give their support, and for me, that's heartwarming."
Chicago police are still looking for whoever shot Canjura in the leg in what appears to be a random act.
