
CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A 71-year-old woman is in critical condition after a bizarre shooting Thursday night in West Town involving her husband, who told police he mistook for an intruder, Chicago police said.
According to Chicago police, the 71-year-old woman was entering her home in the 2100 block of West Superior Street around 9:30 p.m. Thursday when she was shot in the lower back by her husband.
Investigators said the man, who has a valid FOID card, thought his wife was a home intruder and opened fire.
The woman was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, police said; while the husband was taken to Area Three for questioning.
