Jacob Trouba gave the Flames a warm welcome back from the NHL All-Star break.

The Rangers captain delivered a bone-crushing hit on Calgary’s Nazem Kadri with the score tied at two apiece in the final minute of the second period, burying his shoulder into Kadri, sending him to the ice as his helmet flew off. Trouba was immediately met by Dillon Dube, who dropped the gloves but was quickly dropped to the ice after a few hard punches from Trouba.

It was the second time in as many periods that Trouba was immediately challenged following a heavy hit. With just over six minutes to go in the first period, Trouba leveled Dube and was quickly met by Chris Tanev, who wanted to square up with Trouba. This fight went on much longer than the battle with Dube, but Trouba held his own before going to the penalty box.

He would be back there later in the game.

The Rangers, winning the physical game behind Trouba, went on to win the game itself thanks to an overtime goal from Alexis Lafreniere.
