The Yankees sent a pair of players to the IL on Saturday morning, one expected, and one not.
As suspected, Josh Donaldson was placed on the 10-day IL with a right hamstring strain after the third baseman came up lame while rounding first base on a flyout on Wednesday, while Jonathan Loaisiga was placed on the 15-day IL with elbow inflammation in a troubling bullpen injury.
In addition, Tommy Kahnle was transferred to the 60-day IL, meaning he won't be back from biceps tendinitis any time soon.
Loaisiga battled injuries last season and was seen as a pivotal bullpen piece this year, with many hoping he could return to his elite 2021 form when he posted a 2.17 ERA. Now, with Lou Trivino on the IL as well, the Yanks will have to rely on Clay Holmes, Wandy Peralta, and Ron Marinaccio.
