PHOTOS: Police rescue man who jumped into river to save dog

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – The NYPD rescued a man and his dog after he jumped into the Hudson River to save his pet on Saturday evening.

The 28-year-old man jumped into the river at W. 43rd Street around 5 p.m., according to the New York Post.

Police said the man’s dog had fallen into the water and that he was trying to retrieve the pooch.

The man was unable to return to land, but first responders from NYPD Harbor and ESU were able to get the man and his dog to safety, police said.

The man was transported to Mt. Sinai West and is expected to be okay, police said.
