(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Authorities in the western suburbs say a detainee fled on foot this afternoon while being transferred to the Kane County Sheriff's Office.
Police are seeking 21-year-old Hugo R. Avila, who reportedly fled from a police transport van around 1 p.m. near Randall Road and Route 64 in St. Charles. The van, driven by an Elgin police officer, was stopped in traffic.
Avila faces felony traffic-related offenses, authorities said in a news alert posted online.
Anyone who knows his whereabout is asked to call 9-1-1 and are discouraged from making contact with him.
An investigation into the escape is pending, officials said.
