(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – A Romeoville golf club is among three local organizations to receive environmental grants for their work in making their spaces greener.
At Mistwood Golf Club, an 8,000-square-foot farm sits within the 18-hole course.
Angelica Carmen, the public course’s new sustainability specialist, said the $9,000 grant from the FairWays Foundation will pay for raised beds and trellises they installed to build their garden.
In its first year, she says they grew 2,300 pounds of produce that were used in the restaurant. The farm also features bee hives and a solar-powered greenhouse.
Next year, the golf course plans to offer tours.
The Evanston Wilmette Golf Course Association and the McHenry County Conservation Foundation also received grants from FairWays.
