WARREN TOWNSHIP (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A family is breathing a sigh of relief after their dog was rescued from a frozen lake in the North suburbs Friday.

Firefighters in Gurnee were on the scene at Grandwood Park after a three-year-old Goldendoodle named Millie fell through the ice on a lake.

The Daily Herald reported that the dog was leashed and out with her owner for a walk when she saw a flock of geese and couldn't stop herself from chasing after it.

Firefighters rescued Millie in about 15 minutes.

The crew used a neighbor’s kayak to rescue Millie, who was about 50 yards from shore.
