CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A competitive youth fishing club in the south suburbs is looking for volunteers with boats for a tournament this weekend.
The Off the Hook-South Bassmaster Fishing Club wrote on Facebook it’s in desperate need of boat captains for a tournament on the Cal Sag Channel on Saturday in Alsip.
The club’s president Aja Moore said this is their last chance to qualify for state and earn a spot at the Bass Master High School and Junior Nationals.
"We are looking for boat captains that would be willing to drive the kids around in Cal Sag while they catch fish. They don't have to have conversation, they don't have to train the kid...Their boat needs to have a live well that works," she said.
She said the kids have been doing shore-fishing tournaments. They’ve missed two boat tournaments, because they couldn’t find captains for those either.
"Saturday is the last opportunity for the kids to qualify for the Illinois Bass State Tournament," Moore said.
The Off the Hook-South Bassmaster Fishing Club said they could use five boats, with two kids on each boat.
The tournament runs from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
