A Chicago-based company is using artificial intelligence to help commercial truck drivers avoid accidents on the road.
Michael Bloom, VP of Product and Marketing at SmartWitness, said one of his company’s primary objectives is making the road — and drivers — safer.
Smartwitness’ AI cameras are designed to help minimize accidents involving commercial trucks, and it works, in part, by using dash cams on the commercial trucks.
When dashcams detect possible collisions, lane departures, speeding, distracted driving, and fatigue, SmartWitness will warn the driver.
Bloom, describing other benefits from the technology, said, “the moment that the driver is on camera, they’re going to drive better anyway.”
This comes at a time when the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said total deaths in crashes involving large commercial trucks climbed 13% last year.
“This is what it's about,” Bloom said. “It’s about being able to show and protect the truth of what really happened. But also it’s about protecting all of the drivers on the road.”
