As the Aaron Rodgers sweepstakes continues, with it seemingly only being a one-horse race with the Jets, Tiki Barber is more convinced than ever that Rodgers actually needs the Jets more than they need the future Hall of Famer.
“We’ve been positioning this that the Jets were the desperate team for Aaron Rodgers…Robert Saleh needs to save his job, Joe Douglas needs to get the quarterback position right, etc,” Tiki said. “But I’m starting to come to the realization that the idea that the Jets need Aaron Rodgers is flipped. The converse is true. Aaron Rodgers needs the Jets to save face. You know why? Because nobody else wants Aaron Rodgers.
“He’s an all-timer…he looks fantastic still at age 38 even if most of last season was disrupted by a thumb injury, but Aaron Rodgers is the desperate one here.”
How could the Jets be the one less needing of Rodgers considering how starved they were for quarterback production last season? Tiki says the Packers’ behavior with Rodgers, and the lack of interest from other teams, shows that Rodgers is the one who should be feeling the desperation.
“If Aaron Rodgers’ career ends in a whimper, the Packers are ready to move on,” Tiki said. “They got hooked with sticking with Aaron Rodgers because of the MVPs, but we know based on their roster construction that they wanted Jordan Love to be their starting quarterback. That’s going to happen. They are done with Aaron Rodgers.
“In 2023, with Aaron Rodgers at 39 years old, nobody wants him, except the New York jets. Aaron Rodgers needs the Jets, more than the Jets need Aaron Rodgers at this point.”
