NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- New York's COVID hospitalizations took a sizable drop this week, while the seven-day infection rate went down slightly.
New York's latest numbers, released Friday, showed hospitalizations drop to 2,169 — 101 less than the day before, and nearly 180 fewer than three days earlier.
New York City continues to hold the state's lowest seven-day infection rate by a wide margin. It sat at 1.42% Friday — with the next closest being the Mid-Hudson region, at 2.46%.
Within the city, all five boroughs have infection rates below 2% — Manhattan was lowest at 1.12%, while Staten Island was highest at 1.65%.
Still, 37 New Yorkers died from COVID over the past day, bringing the statewide toll to 44,587.
According to CDC data, 75.5% of adult New Yorkers have completed their vaccine series.
Mayor Bill de Blasio credited the New York City's vaccine mandates for pushing a 45% immunization increase across the five boroughs.
Despite a seven-day infection rate across the state dropping from 2.76% last Friday to 2.52% this Friday, the state still saw over 4,000 new cases every day in that period, including nearly 5,200 today.
In July, New York saw positive cases below 1,000 multiple times.
