East Hartford, Conn./WTIC Radio - Stone Academy, the career school that has operated for over 150 years in Connecticut, is closing its doors effective immediately.

In a letter last week to the state Office of Higher Education, Stone announced it was shutting campuses in Waterbury, East Hartford, and West Haven.
OHE is assisting students in what their next steps will be.
Serious compliance issues were found, including a below 80-percent pass rated at the three campuses.
State Senator Saud Anwar, who co-chairs the legislature's Public Health Committee, said "At a time when we need nurses more than ever, I'm disappointed in Stone Academy's closing, but I'm also disappointed in Stone Academy's lack of proper education among nursing students."
Programs of study at Stone include practical nursing, medical assisting, patient care specialist, and nurse's aide.
