Meriden, Conn./WTIC Radio - Meriden police are investigating a series of vehicle window smashings in the city Wednesday night.
Detectives say all told, there were about 40 such incidents.
Police say the vandalism took part primarily in the east side of the city and when they went to investigate a particular area, the same activity would be repeated elsewhere.
Investigators say the vast majority of the vehicles were not entered and it "appears as if the person or persons responsible were merely intent upon causing the damage."
Meriden police are encouraging residents to call them is they notice suspicious vehicles or persons in their neighborhood.
